Vice President J.D. Vance

The Banner's Staff Writer

With the 2024 Presidential Election having come to an end, many have a solid basis of president-elect Donald J. Trump's standpoint on economic policy and foreign affairs; however, it is equally important to analyze the background and beliefs of the incumbent vice president, J.D. Vance.

J.D. Vance, born James Bowman on August 2nd, 1984, in Middletown, Ohio, had a fair share of hardship growing up. As a young child, his parents divorced, with his mother taking custody of him, later changing his surname to her maiden name, Vance. Drug and alcohol abuse were rampant in his household, resulting in Vance having to be raised by his grandparents from the Appalachian region of Kentucky. Nevertheless, even though he came from a broken family, Vance was able to build a life for himself by enlisting in the U.S. Marine Corps after graduating from high school in 2003. From there, Vance served in the Iraq War, later attending Ohio State University upon his return. It was at university that his intellectual capabilities were truly unraveled, with his early devotion to a political science and philosophy degree leading him to attend Yale Law School. Upon being elected senator of Ohio in 2022, he made it his mission to improve the lives of working-class—oftentimes destitute—individuals, to spare them from the rough-and-tumble life he had to endure. His open support for legislation which aims at fulfilling these goals, such as the Regulations from the Executive in Need of Scrutiny Act, an act that aims to to reduce federal regulations that could harm small businesses in struggling areas, serves as evidence that the policies he advocates for as vice president will reflect these moral principles.

Through Vance's seeking of a position of such authority, the future vice president makes it clear that he has the interest of the American people in mind. Ultimately, his dedication to service, and his commitment to the welfare of the American people, would ensure strong leadership and progress for years to come.
