President Elect Donald Trump's Plans for America

DAVINDER SINGH, Staff Writer

On November 6, 2024, the AP declared all fifty states' votes, with 312 votes for the Republican Party (red) and 226 votes for the Democratic Party (blue), declaring Donald Trump president for the next four years. Trump is also the second president ever to be reelected into office with a one-term gap in between. He has prioritized and stated to the public his three major points: economy, abortion, and immigration.

Economy

The economy has been a major concern for many votes, as this determines everything. Since 2020, inflation has increased 21%. However, as stated in Core Promise three on his campaign website, Trump has made it one of his twenty goals to end inflation and "Make America Great Again."

In Trump's Republican National Convention this July, Trump claimed he would reduce reliance on foreign energy, prices – and by extension, manufacturing, transport and other costs that drive consumer goods prices – will be halved within the first year of his term.

Trump also wants to extend the Job Act tax cuts that went into place during his first term, as they’re going to expire in 2025, and the nonpartisan Tax Policy Center has announced plans to not create another act regarding the tax cuts. This will affect millions of citizens as these tax cuts helped many households, meaning the plan for the nonpartisan Tax Policy Center must come up with a solution in order to compensate for the tax increases that will come into effect after this act expires.

Immigration

One of the largest issues viewed by US citizens regarding immigration is Trump's deportation plan. Trump wants to deport anywhere from 15 million to 20 million unauthorized immigrants living in the US.

Trump wants to seal the border. Trump claims on his first day in office, he will terminate every open border policy of the Biden-Harris administration, and seal the border. Trump has also stated multiple times his disapproval towards unauthorized immigration and wants to remove unauthorized immigrants from the nation. Trump also intends to end the loophole of "catch and release." This will be a major problem for families trying to seek freedom from religious persecution, poverty, etc.

Abortion

Donald Trump stated in the 2024 presidential debate he will not sign a national abortion ban into law. Trump wants to leave it to the states to decide whether abortion should be legalized or not; continuously repeating abortion is a state decision.

In an interview with TIME, Trump was asked repeatedly if he would veto an abortion ban bill if it were ever presented to him. Multiple times, after being asked this question, Trump responded with the same answer: it's up to the states whether abortion should be legalized or not, and he highly doubts a bill to ban abortion would ever reach him.
