Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen. My name is Dashel Boahen. I am very honored to be able to speak to you all today. It's crazy to think about how fast we grew without actually realizing it; especially starting high school through a screen. As I like to say, we are COVID kids.
Think about all the friendships and laughter that we made within these
high school walls. We patiently waited for the bell to ring at the beginning and end of each day, sprinting to the doors no matter how many times Mr. Zielenski yelled, "No running!"
Together, we made many core memories that will last a lifetime. From cheering in the student sections for our favorite Raider teams, to sitting out on the football field for SGO movie night, to tearing up the dance floor at prom, we have truly made the most of our time at NBTHS.
We all grew up learning from our teachers who have guided and shaped us into who we are today. I think some of us are going to miss starting our day hearing Mr. Zielinski say, ”That's the bell, get to homeroom.” Whether it was playing a sport or playing an instrument, we have learned from coaches and advisors outside of the classroom as well. We all started off in elementary school reading picture books, and as we grew we moved to chapter books. Now as we close a chapter of our lives and turn the page to a new one we take our first steps down the divergent paths. We, the students, would like to say thank you to every single teacher here today.
Man, did those four years fly by, years of waiting for this moment turned into months and that turned into weeks, and weeks turned into days and days turned into hours and minutes, bringing us to this exact moment. The growing up we did was beautiful even though the journey was filled with dreams and disappointments; we are all grateful for those moments and all the people that brought us here. Thank you Mom, Dad, and sisters, everything was for you. We have all overcome and foreseen difficulties. We all went through ups and downs some of which have never been seen before from experiencing Covid's unspoken hardships and even losing loved ones.
Looking back, I know everyone here has had their difficulties and has been through great pains. But look at us now, we are here right now on this day stronger and bigger than ever, with the world at our fingertips. Looking ahead I will admit I am very nervous and maybe a little scared for what life has waiting for us, but the future isn't something we enter the future is what we create and when I look out into this crowd I see a bright future full of hope and change. Although it comes to an end, a new era is about to begin. As Nicki Minaj once said, “Go to school, graduate get your own. Because when it's all said and done, they can say whatever they want to say about you, but they can't take it from you.” Congratulations, Class of 2024, the world awaits us.
