April 23 - Today, many students are participating in GLSEN’s Annual Day of Silence. The Day of Silence exists to bring awareness to the bullying and harassment of LGBTQ+ students. Students are taking a day-long vow of silence to symbolically represent the silencing of the LGBTQ+ community. If you want to know more about the cause and how you can become an ally, please go to www.glsen.org or contact a member of the Alphabet Alliance.
April 22 - Today is Earth Day! The theme for this year's Earth Day is "Restore Our Earth" which focuses on natural processes and emerging green technologies that can restore the world's ecosystems. Students are encouraged to explore these opportunities and to continue to view the PSA's that our Environmental club has been sharing during our TV News segments.
April 21 - Last night, many Americans watched intently as the George Floyd trial came to a resolution. Justice was pursued through the court system and the jury reached their verdict of guilty through the legal process. As a school community, we are committed to fairness, equity, and dignity for all people. While George Floyd’s life cannot be regained, we hope that the movement felt around the world and right here in North Brunswick will continue to inspire and inform us as we all seek to address the traditional inequities of our society and move forward together to a world where we celebrate our diversity and guarantee fair treatment and opportunity for all. As a school community we look forward to giving each of you the opportunities to talk about these events and the role you can play in shaping the future of our nation. Today in English and Social Studies classes teachers engaged in these discussions.
April 15 - The NBTHS Human Rights Coalition is currently working on their project for Kean University's Diversity Council called "The Power of the Untold Story". Modeled after youtube's 'Jubilee', students answer the prompt and members of the club reflect on their responses. To view their first set of videos, please follow their instagram @humansofNBTHS. In light of the recent rise in attacks on the Asian-American community across the country, their second set of videos will focus on cultural identity and overcoming hardship.
