On January 16-18 at 7 pm, the Alchemist Theatre Company held its annual production of Theatre Revue, and it was one for the books!
Theatre Revue is a collection of sketches, musical numbers, and routines put on by the students in Alchemist, illustrating their love for theatre in the forms of song, dance, and speech. Individuals or groups of students are able to audition their pieces and the directors choose a select amount that will be performed. There are also several full-cast numbers that anyone is able to participate in.
Theatre Revue occurs annually, and is something many students look forward to participating in or watching each year. In fact, the very first Theatre Revue took place in 1977 and has continued almost every year after, making Theatre Revue '25 the 46th of the sort! Still, the show showcases different routines and performances each year, keeping students and staff eager to see what each year will entail.
This year, Theatre Revue consisted of 26 separate sketches. They ranged from monologues to comedy acts to musical performances. There were songs from popular musicals like Wicked, Newsies, and Hamilton as well as performances from The Outsiders and Mind Mangler This wide variety makes the show extremely entertaining, as there is something for everyone to enjoy.
Students have a lot to say about Theatre Revue this year. Allison Turay, a junior at NBTHS and member of Alchemist, was chosen to be the assistant stage manager, and says she loves Theatre Revue because "it showcases everyone's personality and talent." Billy Shimp, a junior, attended Theatre Revue multiple times. He says, "My favorite part of Theatre Revue was definitely the Mind Mangler skit."
Overall, the Alchemist's production of Theatre Revue was a delight to watch. The students hard work is evident, and it is clear how hard each person works, whether a part of cast, crew, or production, to put together this amazing show.
